A novel sight in Lower Galilee. This Arab village proudly flies the Israeli flag next to an enormous finjan (coffee pot) and sends a clear message "Call in and drink coffee with us!"
These beautiful pomegranates - "rimonim" in Hebrew
- are to be found in the entrance-way to the Supreme Court, the High Court
of Justice of the State of Israel. They represent the pomegranates found
in the Temple of Solomon. There, they formed chains that decorated the
capitals of the two bronze columns, Boaz and Yakhin; they embellished
the hem of the High Priest's robe; and they were to be found on the coins
that stated "Jerusalem the Holy". The Supreme Court is well-worth
a visit – there are free on-site guided tours. We’ll be happy
to advise you on times of tours and how to get to the Courthouse.
From here, let one of our guides take you to the near-by Israel museum,
where you may see displayed the sceptre from Solomon's Temple with its
beautiful pomegranate head carved in ivory. The Israel Museum has a store-house
of treasures that your guide will reveal to you. When you hear the stories
behind the exhibits, you will be amazed at how fascinating a cracked pot
can be! (And if you visit in the summer, the air-conditioning can offer
a welcome respite from the scorching summer sun)
Proud young soldiers of an elite unit following the dream
of David Ben Gurion - a Jewish army defending a Jewish country. Each soldier
receives a gun and a Bible as he is officially sworn in to the Israel
Defence Force. The swearing-in ceremony takes place at Sde Boker, in front
of the grave of the first Prime Minister of the modern State of Israel,
with the Negev landscape David Ben Gurion loved so well as a stunning
backdrop. Ben Gurion is buried next to his beloved wife Paula. The Negev
landscape is awesome at any time of the year. Discover some of its secrets
with your guide.
